Health Care Ethics Spring 2002
Pharmacy Students Additional Assignment

March 26, 2002

The final assignment for the course is to describe 2 cases involving an ethical dilemma. Your case material should come from your actual experience during your rotation. For example, did you observe a dilemma, or now that you are more familiar with the issues at risk do you recall a situation that could have been handled differently?

Always keeping in mind that patient confidentiality is of the utmost importance, you are to write a case scenario which includes a brief, description of the:

    1. Medical/pharmacological indications
    2. The patients quality of life prior to and currently
    3. Any known patient preferences, and
    4. Any contextual factors (psycho/social/economic, etc.)

This description should be no longer than one-half of a page.

Once you have "set the scene" then you are to identify which ethical principles are at stake and then briefly explain why the ethical principles are at stake and how you would proceed to resolve them. Each case and resolution should be no longer than one and one-half pages in length. There should be a separate cover sheet that precedes your responses, (follow the format as outlined for all assignments.)

This assignment is due April 17, 2002. Your assignment is to be given to Dr. Lombardo. Should you have any questions please see Dr. F. Lombardo, thank you.
